Dover - Day 2

So ... not sure this will get posted until tomorrow or not, as I am having problems with the Internet right now. We just got back from dinner at Cullen’s Yard. The food was good, but the service was slow. Oh well, the company was great. We met other DISers, so it will be nice to recognize someone tomorrow.
Today was a busy day. We got up at 7:00 for breakfast at 8:00 am. We met with Heidi (HAS) at breakfast and planned out our day. We found out you can get a family explorer pass for 10 pound which was good on the Dover buses for one day. We took the bus to Canterbury and visited the Cathedral and the town. What we saw of Canterbury was beautiful. The cathedral was something else. It was built in the 12th century and I’m amazed at what they could accomplish back then. Kirstyn and I toured on our own, while Heidi and family hired a private guide. We both had fun! We were in Canterbury for about 2.5 hours. Advice would be to get there early. The school tours start arriving around noon.

After Canterbury, we returned to Dover and changed to the 15i bus to Dover castle. You can walk there, but the walk is all uphill. At the castle, we spent time in the museum and the tower, and toured the underground war tunnels. This was worth the price of admission. At this point Kirstyn and I were tired, so while the others stayed to visit the lighthouse, we decided to take the bus home. After waiting for 15 minutes for the bus, we decided to walk. It was downhill this time after all!!! We made it back without getting lost. When we caught up with Heidi for supper, we discovered we were at the wrong bus stop, so that could have accounted for the wait!!

Next was dinner, but we’ve already talked about that, so I will sign off to get a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow we board the Magic. Can’t wait!!

  1. wonderful...

can't wait to hear more. we are on first cruise in july and DIS was so great for planning our western and eastern but with Disney never going to Baltics before we are clueless. We've signed up for all the excursions. Very curious what happens on board on days at sea.

We Love the mouse but are curious if they play it differently in Europe. I would think there are a lot of older kids and the entertainment would be different. I said to my wife, "not sure I want to be with the Mouse in Europe" but she convinced me (or reminded me) the service is awesome, the ship wonderful, and not having to pack and unpack over 12 days is great.

We eagerly await our 'days at sea'....

Canterbury sounded wonderful. We have rented a car from London to Dover and planned to stop at the cathedral (my wife is a life long Episcopalean so it's like a pilgramage)... but from your report it sounds like there is more to do there. yes?
